Armed robbers wielding replica firearm chased down and arrested

20211019 Armed robbers wielding replica firearm chased down and arrested

At approximately midday today the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received a call from a member of the public who stated that an armed robbery had occurred on Storm Road in Kenville where two suspects, one armed with a firearm, had robbed the driver of a technical security services vehicle of his phone, wallet and technical tools and then fled into a nearby bush.

A description of the suspects was relayed to all responding members. A few minutes later, the same suspects were spotted by members of our Special Operations Team on the railway line near Smithfield Road and Hendon Road. After a short foot chase the suspects were immediately arrested. Upon searching the suspects the stolen items taken during the robbery were recovered, including a 9mm replica firearm.

The Greenwood Park Police were dispatched and arrived on scene within minutes. The suspects were then taken to Greenwood Park Police station where they will be charged for armed robbery.

A short while later, a second arrest was made when a trespasser was also stopped in his tracks.

At approximately 15h20 our Emergency Dispatch Centre received a call from an alert neighbor on Delville Road after noticing a suspect trespassing on a neighboring vacant property.

Multiple Armed Response Officers responded and managed to apprehend the suspect still on the property. The owner of the vacant property arrived on scene together with members of Greenwood Parks SAPS.

The suspect was then transported to Greenwood Park Police Station and will be charged for trespassing.
