At approximately 17h45 yesterday evening, Marshall Security’s Emergency Dispatch Centre received critical information from Homeland Security regarding suspects involved in an armed robbery on Saturday in the Umbilo area. The suspects were reportedly traveling in a black Kia Sportage and their modus operandi is to target pedestrians walking alone and robbing them of their belongings.
This information was swiftly circulated to all Marshall Security Armed Response Officers, who remained vigilant in their patrols. Shortly after, one of our Armed Response Officers spotted the vehicle on South Beach Road, in Umdloti. The suspects spotted our Officers following them and immediately left the area and travelled towards Durban on the M4 Southbound Freeway.

The vehicle was later intercepted by our Armed Response Officers and members of Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team on the M4, just past Broadway. All four occupants were immediately apprehended.
A thorough search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of two cellphones that the suspects could not account for, along with a replica firearm which is suspected to have been used by the suspects to commit robberies.
The suspects, a replica firearm, suspects vehicle used in the commision of a crime were handed over to Durban North SAPS for further investigations.
