Two suspects were arrested after they lost control of their vehicle on the N2 south bound after Queen Nandi Drive while fleeing members of our Special Ops Team at approximately 20h30 this evening.
The Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre had been alerted to the theft out of a motor vehicle at the Ballito Junction Mall at approximately 19h35 this evening. A description of the vehicle was circulated and members of our Special Operations Team spotted the vehicle traveling south on the N2 in the vicinity of Umhlanga.
Our members pursued the suspects, driving a white Hyundai i20 with false numberplates, and they immediately sped off in an escape attempt. The suspects lost control of their vehicle and crashed into an innocent motorist in a silver VW Polo, causing both vehicles to roll. Three occupants from the Polo sustained multiple injuries, one of them a female that required advanced medical care and was transported to hospital for further treatment.
Both suspects were arrested and various stolen items, including three laptops, were recovered. The suspects will be charged for theft out of motor vehicle, possession of car break-in implements, possession of suspected stolen items, and reckless and negligent driving.
