School Copper Theft Suspect Arrested Minutes After Community Alert

At approximately 13h03 this afternoon, Marshall Security’s Emergency Dispatch Centre received a message via a WhatsApp Crime Alert Group from an alert member of the public, reporting that a suspect – wanted in connection with a theft of copper pipes incident as per CCTV footage at Greenwood Park Primary School, was seen walking in Columbia Road, Kenville.

Multiple Armed Response Officers and the Special Operations Team (SOT) were immediately dispatched to the area. Officers located a suspect matching the description and apprehended him on the corner of Kew Road and Queen Nandi Drive, Kenville.

Greenwood Park SAPS was contacted and arrived shortly afterward, transporting the suspects to the station for further processing.

Further investigation confirmed that one suspect was linked to last month’s theft and has now been formally charged. The second individual (a friend of the suspect), found to have no involvement, was released—he had simply been in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Marshall Security extends its sincere appreciation to the vigilant community members who raised the alarm and to Greenwood Park SAPS for their swift assistance. Today’s arrest underscores the power of real-time information and decisive response in safeguarding our schools and neighbourhoods.
