GWA Marshall Security Apprehends Suspect on Swanfield Road, Copper recovered

On Saturday, 23 August at approximately 11h00, while conducting a routine patrol in Swanfield Road, Westmead, a GWA Marshall response officer observed a suspicious individual carrying a heavy bag.

A stop-and-search was immediately carried out, leading to the discovery of copper cabling. The suspect was unable to provide a valid explanation for the possession of the items and was subsequently apprehended

Pinetown SAPS arrived on scene a short while later and the suspect was transported to Pinetown SAPS for further investigation.

This arrest in Westmead highlights a broader national challenge. Copper theft is a costly crime in South Africa, causing billions of rands in losses each year.

This successful intervention was conducted in collaboration with the Greater Westmead Association, reinforcing the importance of partnership in ensuring community safety.
