Routine Patrol Leads to Arrest in Copper Theft in Westmead

Today, at approximately 11h59, while conducting routine patrols in the Westmead area, GWA’s Marshall Security Officers observed two suspicious males walking with a white sack on Henry Pennington Road, heading towards Swanfield Road.

Acting swiftly, the officers stopped and searched the pair due to their suspicious behavior. During the search, a large quantity of copper was found inside the sack. When questioned, the suspects could not provide a reasonable explanation as to where they got the items from.

Due to the high incidence of copper theft, particularly affecting industrial and commercial properties, our officers apprehended the suspects on the spot to prevent the potential resale of stolen infrastructure.

Pinetown SAPS was contacted and arrived shortly thereafter. The suspects were transported to the station for further investigation and processing.

This arrest highlights not only the effectiveness of proactive patrolling but also the vigilance and rapid response of GWA’s Marshall Security Officers in staying ahead of copper theft in Westmead.

The Greater Westmead Association (GWA), in close collaboration with Marshall Security and SAPS, continues to play a pivotal role in promoting community safety, recovering stolen goods, and ensuring that criminals are held accountable.
