Durban North Theft and Business Burglary Suspect Arrested After Multiple Incidents Linked by CCTV

At approximately 10h35 this morning, a Marshall Security Officer stationed at a well-known sports bar on Ranleigh Crescent in the Durban North area reported an individual behaving suspiciously on the premises. The officer immediately contacted our Emergency Dispatch Centre to request backup.

Multiple Armed Response Officers were dispatched and arrived on-scene shortly thereafter. Officers made contact with the individual and initiated an on-site investigation.

Upon further assessment, the individual was positively identified—through CCTV footage—as the same suspect wanted in connection with two separate theft cases at the same sports bar in April and May 2025. In both incidents, unattended cellphones were stolen from patrons, and formal cases had been registered with Durban North SAPS. The suspect was immediately apprehended.

Further investigations also linked the suspect to a business burglary on Mackeurtan Avenue in June this year. CCTV footage confirmed that the same individual discreetly entered a well-known school, gained access to an office, and stole a laptop—again, without attracting attention. A formal case was opened with Durban North SAPS at the time.

Marshall Security’s Emergency Dispatch Centre promptly notified Durban North SAPS, who responded to the scene and transported the suspect to the station for further processing and investigation.

There is reason to believe the suspect may be connected to additional cases within the greater Durban North area. This will be investigated further by members of our Special Operations Team in collaboration with Durban North SAPS Detectives

This arrest highlights two essential tools in modern crime prevention:

  • CCTV Surveillance: Real-time and recorded footage remains one of the most powerful tools in linking suspects to multiple incidents across locations.
  • Opening SAPS Cases: Every case number filed helps build a stronger profile and makes it easier for law enforcement to act when suspects are apprehended.

Marshall Security urges all clients and residents to ensure that CCTV systems are regularly maintained and operational and to always report thefts and suspicious activity through formal SAPS channels.

Together with law enforcement and our dedicated clients, we remain committed to proactive security, swift arrests, and safer communities.
