Last night at approximately 18h40 one of our Armed Response Officers was flagged down by a member of the public who was assisting a female who had been brutally assaulted inside a business in Durban North.
Upon further investigation, it was established that a 23 year old female who was in the process of locking up at a business premises on Umhlanga Rocks Drive was robbed by a male suspect armed with a knife.
During the robbery the suspect stabbed the female multiple times in the head and the neck area and then attempted to tie the female victim up. An undisclosed amount of items were taken and the suspect fled in an unknown direction.
The female victim managed to walk outside of the business premises to seek assistance. This is when a member of the public flagged down our Armed Response Officers for assistance.
One of our off-duty Special Operations Team members was one of the first responders on the scene and immediately administered first aid. A short while later Netcare 911 arrived and took over and Advanced Life Support intervention was required to stabilize the female victim before being transported in critical condition to a private hospital for the further medical care that she would require.
Greenwood Park SAPS were on scene and will be investigating a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and business robbery.
