Fuel Theft Suspects Arrested After Foot Chase in Umhlanga

Yesterday at approximately 14h18, Marshall Security’s Emergency Dispatch Centre received an alert from a client at a local service station on Umhlanga Rocks Drive. They reported that a customer in a white Isuzu bakkie had fueled up to the value of R350 — and driven off without paying, just as the attendant was closing the fuel cap.

Details of the vehicle were swiftly circulated to our Armed Response Officers and Special Operations Team (SOT), who immediately launched a coordinated effort to locate the suspects.

At around 15h30, Marshall Security’s SOT members successfully spotted the vehicle travelling along Zenith Drive near Gateway. As officers initiated the stop, two suspects abruptly exited the bakkie and attempted to flee on foot.

A lengthy chase followed through the streets of Umhlanga, but determination paid off. Our team managed to apprehend both suspects and secure the scene.

Upon inspecting the bakkie, officers discovered that the suspects had fitted false number plates to conceal the vehicle’s identity. The original license plates were found hidden behind the seats.

The suspects were handed over to Durban North SAPS for further processing and investigations.

We extend our thanks to all key role players involved in this successful arrest – Durban North SAPS Crime Prevention, and Greenwood Park SAPS.
