Effective mobilisation to a hijacked vehicle led to its recovery and the arrest of two suspects merely 20 minutes after the incident had occurred.
Yesterday afternoon just after 16h00 members of our Special Operations Team were activated to assist Cartrack with locating a silver Toyota Etios that had been hijacked. Two suspects, one armed with a firearm, had hijacked a motorist in the Newlands area.
Our members immediately responded to the last known location of the vehicle. While on route, the Etios was spotted in Siyanda and the suspects were immediately arrested by members of our Special Operations Team, Cartrack ground team and members from the Phoenix Trio Crime Unit. One of the suspects was in possession of a replica firearm that was used during the hijacking.
Both suspects, one of which was 19-years old, as well as the recovered hijacked vehicle, were taken to the Newlands Police Station for further investigation and processing.
