Yesterday, a significant joint operation was carried out in the Maphumulo and Nsuze areas, part of the Kwa Dukuza cluster. This concerted effort brought together by SAPS Umhlali K9, SAPS Newark, SAPS Nsuze, other private security companies, and air support teams, all united in their mission to address and put an end to the vehicle hijackings and thefts in the region.
The operation was a resounding success, leading to the recovery of multiple vehicles previously reported as stolen or hijacked, including a Toyota Quantum, Mitsubishi Colt, Hyundai H100, and a Toyota Conquest with tampered Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Additionally, a 9mm pistol, with its serial number removed, was also recovered during the operation.
A total of six suspects, were apprehended. Five of these individuals are now facing charges for the possession of suspected stolen vehicles, with the sixth suspect being charged for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
This operation is a testament to the power of collaboration between SAPS and private security companies, all working cohesively to ensure the safety of our communities.
