La Lucia AI Cameras Lead to Quick Apprehension of Thief

At approximately 21h54, the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received a tripwire activation from our community project AI cameras in the La Lucia area, where a suspicious male was spotted.

Marshall Security’s monitoring team promptly dispatched Armed Response Officers to search the area. However, no one fitting the description was found initially. At 22h08, the same suspicious male set off another tripwire on Davallen Avenue, this time carrying alcohol in his possession. Our officers immediately responded and interviewed the male, who could not provide a reasonable explanation for how he had come into possession of the alcohol.

Our monitoring team reviewed the camera footage and established that the male had jumped over the gate of a property on Davallen Avenue.

The homeowners were immediately informed and confirmed that the alcohol was stolen from their outside fridge.

The suspect was transported to Durban North Police Station for further processing, and a case was opened. This successful apprehension was made possible by the AI cameras in the area, funded by the La Lucia community.

This incident highlights the effectiveness of advanced technology and the swift action of our officers in maintaining community safety. We commend our team and the vigilant residents of La Lucia for their efforts in ensuring a secure environment.
