In the early hours of 7 December 2024, at approximately 00:27, a Marshall Security officer noticed a suspect removing Christmas lights from a popular hotel in lower Umhlanga. When approached, the suspect fled the scene, entering a white Chevrolet and speeding off towards the M4 Freeway.
Acting swiftly, Marshall Security teams initiated a coordinated pursuit, successfully intercepting the suspect’s vehicle on the M4. The suspect, who initially denied the theft however surveillance footage clearly showed the individual removing the lights. Following further questioning, the suspect admitted to discarding the stolen items during the chase.
Marshall Security officers retraced the route and recovered the Christmas lights, ensuring they were safely returned. The incident was escalated to the SAPS, and the suspect was handed over to Durban North SAPS for further investigations and processing.
This operation highlights the effectiveness of rapid response, teamwork, and vigilance in protecting the community during the festive season.
