Various stolen valuables were recovered after our Armed Response Officers were alerted by a resident to suspicious activity in the Virginia area in the early hours of this morning.
Just after 01h40 the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received a call from a resident in Kentucky Drive, who stated that they could see a suspect breaking into their neighbour’s cottage.
Multiple Armed Response Officers were immediately dispatched and arrived on scene within minutes, but the suspect had fled prior to our arrival. It was later established that the suspect was unsuccessful in gaining entry. A property check was conducted and there were no signs of any suspects.
A few hours later at approximately 03h20, our Emergency Dispatch Centre received a call from the same resident who stated that a suspect was now trespassing on his own property. Armed Response Officers arrived on scene and spotted the suspect in the property with stolen items in his possession. The suspect immediately dropped the stolen items and fled. After an extensive search the suspect unfortunately managed to evade arrest by jumping into neighbouring properties.
While conducting property checks where the suspect had been seen trespassing, various stolen items were found across the properties, such as flat screen TV’s, compressors and computer towers.
Contact was made with the homeowners on Kentucky Drive where the stolen items had been found, however the items did not belong to any of the homeowners. All the stolen items were handed over to the Durban North SAPS.
Later, just after 05h15, our Emergency Dispatch Centre received a mobile panic signal from a client stating that their parents’ house had been broken into on Vickers Place in the Virginia area – a property not fitted with an alarm system. It was later established that all the items that were recovered earlier in the morning were stolen from the very same property, where the front door had been forced to gain entry.
Durban North SAPS were contacted and arrived on the scene for further investigation.
Well done to the vigilant homeowner, and our Armed Response Officers, whose combined efforts and quick response led to the recovery of the stolen items, leaving the criminals empty-handed.
