This morning at approximately 09h00, the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received an urgent call from a client for assistance on Blackburn Road in the Red Hill area, reporting the theft of an air conditioning unit from a local church by two suspects.
An accurate description of the suspects was circulated to all responding Armed Response Officers.
Responding promptly, our Officers spotted the two suspects matching the provided description on Chris Hani Road in the Avoca area. They were seen pushing the dismantled aircon unit in a trolley.
The suspects attempted to flee but were no match for our dedicated team, who swiftly apprehended one of them. Unfortunately, despite an extensive search, one suspect managed to evade arrest.
Greenwood Park SAPS was immediately contacted and arrived on the scene shortly afterward. The victim was informed accordingly who desired to press charges against the suspect.
The suspect was then transported to Greenwood Park SAPS for further investigations and will be facing charges of theft.
We have noticed an increase in the theft of air conditioning units, particularly for their valuable copper components.
We advise the community to make sure the necessary security measures are in place to avoid falling victim to such crime.
Well done to our members for their vigilance and effectiveness, resulting in another successful apprehension.
