A copper thief was arrested after Armed Response Officers chased him down in the early hours of this morning.
This morning at approximately 03h00 the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received a panic alert from a client’s premises on Belmont Road in the Effingham area and reported that a suspect had stolen several meters of copper piping as well as brass taps.
An accurate description of the suspect was relayed to all our Armed Response Officers to be on the look out for the wanted suspect.
A few minutes later the suspect was spotted walking on Hyacinth Road in the Avoca area by our Armed Response Officer and a short foot chase ensued, whereafter the suspect was apprehended. The stolen copper pipes and brass taps was found in his possession.
The Greenwood Park SAPS were advised and arrived on scene a short while later. Unfortunately the suspect was released with a warning after the homeowner refused to open a case with the SAPS.
