At approximately 03h37 this morning, while on routine patrols along the M4 Ruth First Freeway, Marshall Security Armed Response Officers observed a male pushing a bicycle.
Due to the recent increase of house breakings and thefts incidents in the area our Officers wasted no time to investigate. Backup was immediately dispatched.
Officers approached the male and questioned regarding the ownership of the bicycle. The male could not provide a reasonable explanation and was immediately apprehended.

Upon further investigations it was discovered that the bicycle had been stolen from a property on Vickers Place in the Virginia, Durban North area.
The suspect was escorted to the property who is a non Marshall client, where officers made contact with the homeowner who was unaware of the theft. After checking his garage, the homeowner confirmed that the bicycle had indeed been stolen.
SAPS were immediately contacted and arrived on scene and took the suspect into custody for further processing.
As we head into the festive season, residents are reminded to secure all gates, doors, bicycles, garages, and outdoor valuables before going to bed or leaving for holiday. Opportunistic crime increases when homes are left unsecured.
