This morning, at approximately 10h30, Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team, while on routine patrol in the Mt Edgecombe area, spotted a male carrying electronic equipment on Flanders Drive.
Given the area’s ongoing issues with theft, officers stopped the individual to investigate further. Upon searching the contents of his bag, they discovered 5G Base Station Communication devices typically used in cellphone towers.
The equipment showed clear signs of tampering—cables had been cut, and the brackets securing the devices had been forcefully broken. When questioned, the suspect was unable to provide a reasonable explanation as to how he came into possession of the items.
Marshall Security promptly apprehended the individual and contacted Verulam SAPS. SAPS officers arrived on the scene shortly after, interviewed the suspect, and confirmed that his story lacked credibility.
The suspect was transported to Verulam SAPS and will face charges of being in possession of suspected stolen property.
