On 02 June 2025 at approximately 13h35, an off-duty Marshall Security Armed Response Officer observed a suspicious male pushing a new black wheelie bin along Old Mill Way toward Adelaide Tambo Drive in the Durban North area.
The individual was immediately stopped and questioned. When he was unable to provide a valid explanation for possessing the bin, he was promptly apprehended.
Our Emergency Dispatch Centre quickly recalled a message posted earlier that day at approximately 12h20 on the Home Hawks Neighbourhood Watch group, alerting residents to a stolen wheelie bin taken from Middlebrook Avenue in Virginia.
Further investigation linked the bin to a Marshall Security client residing on Middlebrook Avenue, who was contacted and positively identified the bin as his property.
Durban North SAPS arrived shortly after and transported the suspect to the station for further investigation and processing.
Upon further investigation by our Special Operations Team in collaboration with Durban North SAPS Detectives, it was discovered that the suspect was linked to two additional cases: a housebreaking and theft incident on Old Mill Way, and a theft incident in Beckenham Place. He has since been formally charged in connection with both cases.
This stolen wheelie bin arrest demonstrates the value of proactive patrolling, community collaboration, and swift response. Marshall Security, in partnership with local watch groups and SAPS, continues to drive real results—protecting our neighbourhoods one case at a time.
