Just after midday today, the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received an alert via a WhatsApp Crime Alert Group that a suspect had just stolen copper pipes from a client’s premises on Cupid Row in the Sunningdale area.
A detailed description of the suspect was circulated to all responding Armed Response Officers to be on the look out.
After an extensive search of the area, the suspect was spotted on the corners on Umhlanga Rocks Drive and Village way, with copper pipes in his possession and was immediately apprehended.
The Durban North SAPS were notified and arrived on scene a short while later. The homeowner also positively identified the suspect.
Further investigation revealed that this suspect had previously been apprehended by our team in February for a similar offense in the Glen Ashley area and was currently out on bail.
The suspect was transported to Durban North SAPS and will be facing charges of theft.
