Swift Response Contained Rapidly Spreading Bush Fires in Westmead and Motala Heights

On July 18, 2024, at 12:12 PM, the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received reports of a significant bush fire in the Motala Heights area. The fire was observed to be spreading rapidly, posing a potential threat to nearby residents.

Upon receiving the report, our GWA officers were immediately dispatched to the scene. Concurrently, our Emergency Dispatch Centre notified the Fire Department to ensure a swift and coordinated response.

The Fire Department arrived shortly after the initial call. Our GWA officers collaborated with the Fire Department personnel, providing essential support in containing and extinguishing the fire before it could reach the residential area. Their combined efforts successfully prevented the fire from causing damage to homes and ensured the safety of the local community.

Later, at 17h27, our Emergency Dispatch Centre received reports of a veld fire that had broken out behind the businesses located on Kyalami Road in Westmead. The fire was rapidly spreading and posed an imminent threat to the nearby commercial properties.

Upon receiving the report, our GWA officers were promptly dispatched to the scene. Simultaneously, our Emergency Dispatch Centre contacted the Fire Department to request their urgent assistance.

The Fire Department arrived at the location shortly after being called. Our GWA members assisted the firefighters by guiding them to the specific area behind the businesses where the fire was raging. Thanks to the swift and coordinated efforts, the fire was quickly brought under control and contained, preventing any damage to the businesses.

These incidents highlight the unwavering commitment of the Greater Westmead Association, Marshall Security and the Fire Department to community safety. We commend our officers and the firefighters for their vigilance and quick response, ensuring that potential disasters are promptly addressed to keep our communities secure.
