Last night at 23h27, the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received a call from a client located on Chris Hani Road in the Briardene area. The call was prompted by a mains failure notification at the business, and the client requested an escort to the premises.
Armed Response Officers were dispatched immediately. Upon arrival, of our first Officer, reported hearing noises indicating that someone could be on the property. Recognising the need for additional support, backup units were swiftly called to assist.
During a thorough inspection of the premises, the team observed a suspect trying to escape. The suspect was quickly apprehended. Further investigation revealed that the individual had been stealing copper cables from the distribution board, which led to the mains failure.
Greenwood Park SAPS was notified and arrived at the scene to take the suspect into custody for further legal proceedings. The prompt response and teamwork of our officers effectively prevented further damage and potential loss to the business.
The suspect, well-known in the area, was also arrested last week by our team, highlighting the ongoing challenges with repeat offenders in the community.
