Yesterday morning at approximately 07h30, while members of the Marshall Security Special Operations Team were on routine patrol in the Morningside area, they spotted a blue VW Polo at a well-known service station on Athlone Road. The vehicle was wanted in connection with numerous theft out of motor vehicles.
As our team observed the suspects attempting to break into a vehicle at the service station, the suspects spotted our officers and immediately sped off along Athlone Drive towards the M4. Without hesitation, our team initiated a high-speed pursuit, following the suspects as they raced towards Durban.
During the chase, the suspects threw multiple car-breaking implements and other items from the vehicle in an attempt to evade capture. Despite their efforts, our officers successfully stopped the vehicle, apprehending two suspects inside. A search of the vehicle revealed a stolen laptop and bag, which were linked to a vehicle break-in at a well-known service station on Umhlanga Rocks Drive in the La Lucia area.
Durban Central SAPS took over the suspects’ vehicle and recovered exhibits for further investigation and processing.
It was later confirmed that these suspects were involved in multiple vehicle thefts across the greater Durban area, including Hillcrest, Malvern, Durban North, Umhlanga, and Westville. The suspects had been operating with a blue Polo, a silver Hyundai i10, and a Ford Figo in previous crimes.
