Tragic Accident on Suzuka Road Westmead Claims One Life

This morning at 08h30, the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre was informed via our Greater Westmead Association Whatsapp Group about a devastating incident that occurred on Suzuka Road, Westmead. Where a bus, in an attempt to avoid a pothole, collided with an oncoming vehicle, leading to critical injuries and a tragic fatality.

The accident took place when the bus driver, in a split-second decision to avoid a road hazard, veered into the opposite lane. An oncoming vehicle, with no room to manoeuvre, was struck head-on by the bus. The impact of the collision caused significant damage, trapping the car’s driver inside her vehicle.

Emergency services were quickly on the scene, with Netcare911 paramedics together with other private ambulance services working effectively to free the critically injured woman using the jaws of life. Despite the paramedics’ tireless efforts to resuscitate her, the lady driver succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The incident also resulted in injuries to two passengers aboard the bus, who were both stabilised on-site by the attending emergency teams. They were subsequently transported to a nearby hospital to receive further medical treatment for their injuries.

The local authorities are investigating the accident, and further details will be disclosed as they become available.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. We also wish a speedy recovery to the injured passengers. This tragedy serves as a sobering reminder of the unpredictability of road travel and the need for infrastructure improvements to ensure the safety of all road users.
