At approximately 18h00, the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received information from a member of the public reporting that he had been robbed by two suspects. The suspects had approached the victim in a parking area at Blue Lagoon in a friendly manner, pretending to know him, before pushing him and stealing his cellphone. They then casually walked away and fled in a white BMW.
Marshall Security immediately circulated the details of the vehicle to all Armed Response Officers and Special Operations Team (SOT) members. The victim proceeded to Durban Central SAPS to open a formal case. Shortly thereafter, at approximately 20h30, the vehicle was spotted on Wolseley Road near St Mathias Road. Our Officers together with Durban North SAPS Trio crimes intercepted and stopped the BMW, successfully apprehending the two suspects.
Upon searching the suspects and their vehicle, multiple cellphones were recovered, which the suspects could not account for. Both suspects and all exhibits, including the vehicle, were transported to Durban Central SAPS for further investigation and processing.
Further investigations confirmed that the suspects were responsible for an earlier robbery at Blue Lagoon, where the victim’s cellphone was recovered from their possession. It is also believed that the suspects were involved in another robbery at a well-known restaurant in Clairwood, with the victim’s cellphone likewise recovered. Marshall Security will continue to investigate to determine if the suspects can be linked to additional street robberies in the greater Durban area.
This incident highlights the vigilance, rapid response, and coordination of Marshall Security, demonstrating how street robbery suspects can be swiftly apprehended and stolen property recovered, keeping the community safe.
