A suspect that could possibly be responsible for the numerous cases of theft of copper in the Umgeni Park area in recent weeks was arrested when our Armed Response Officers apprehended him as he was fleeing the scene of his latest victims yesterday.
At approximately 14h20 the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received a call from a client in Wedgwood Crescent in the Umgeni Park area who informed us that their domestic worker had spotted a suspect on their property.
Multiple Armed Response Officers were immediately dispatched and arrived on scene within minutes. When our Armed Response Officers arrived at the property they noticed a suspect jump back out over the wall carrying copper pipes and a copper tap. He was immediately arrested on the corners of Wedgwood Crescent and Anthony Road.
It was established that the stolen copper pipes and copper tap had been stolen from the client’s property. The homeowner was informed accordingly and desired to open a case against the suspect.
Greenwood Park SAPS were contacted and arrived on scene a shortly while later and then transported the suspect along with the stolen items to the police station for further investigation and processing.
The suspect could possibly be linked to the multiple theft of copper pipes and theft of water meters in the Umgeni Park area in the past month.
