This morning at approximately 08h56, Marshall Security’s Emergency Dispatch Centre received an urgent alert via a WhatsApp Crime Alert Group regarding an armed suspect who had just robbed a woman of her cellphone on Oakleigh Avenue, in the La Lucia area.
Marshall Security Armed Response Officers, Special Operations Team (SOT), and Community Support Team were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, the shaken victim informed our officers that the suspect, armed with a firearm, was hiding in the nearby bushes. As members initiated a search of the area, the victim suddenly screamed, drawing our officers toward a parking lot. There, they spotted the suspect emerging from between vehicles and swiftly ordered him to stop.
The suspect was immediately apprehended. A search revealed the victim’s stolen cellphone and a knife in his possession. When questioned about the firearm he had brandished during the robbery, the suspect admitted to hiding it under a nearby vehicle. A replica firearm was subsequently recovered.

Durban North SAPS was contacted and arrived shortly thereafter. The suspect, along with the victim, was transported to the station for further investigation and legal proceedings.
