A suspect was arrested in Morningside this morning after a rapid response by Marshall Security Armed Response Officers, following reports from vigilant community members.
At approximately 10h20, Marshall Security received multiple WhatsApp reports from Morningside community groups indicating that two suspects had jumped over the wall of a property on Kittymere Lane. Footage was immediately shared with responding officers, providing a description of the suspect.
Upon arrival, officers spotted one of the suspects, who was immediately apprehended. The suspect was found in possession of stolen steel water pipes, amongst other items. A second suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.
The owner of the property was contacted and wished to press charges against the suspect.
Members of Durban Central SAPS attended the scene and transported the suspect to the station for further investigation and processing.
Marshall Security commends the vigilance of the Morningside community and the immediate sharing of information, which played a vital role in the successful apprehension of the suspect. This incident once again highlights the value of strong partnerships between the community, private security, and SAPS in combating crime and bringing offenders to justice.
In a separate incident, at approximately 16h00, members of the Marshall Security Special Operations Team were conducting proactive patrols along the M41, Umhlanga, when they noticed an individual acting suspiciously while carrying a battery-powered weed eater.
As officers approached to investigate, the suspect immediately dropped the item and fled on foot.
Members gave chase, pursuing the suspect for several minutes. Despite their efforts, the individual managed to evade arrest after running into nearby dense bush.
The recovered battery-powered weed eater, believed to be stolen property, will be handed over to Durban North SAPS.
