At approximately 14:10 on 15 May 2025, the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre was alerted to a robbery incident on North Coast Road in the Avoca area, outside a well-known spares shop.
Upon arrival, Armed Response Officers, along with members of the Special Operations Team (SOT), made contact with the victim. He reported that several suspects had arrived in a blue VW Polo and approached him in a seemingly friendly manner. During the interaction, the suspects stole his cell phone from his pocket and fled the scene in the same vehicle.
Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team, in collaboration with KwaMashu SAPS and Tracker SA, immediately launched a coordinated search for the suspects. The vehicle was spotted by KwaMashu SAPS and travelling at high speed through the Avoca Hills area, coming from the Mt Edgecombe region.
Members joined the pursuit along Queen Nandi Drive, where the suspects attempted to evade capture by driving recklessly at extreme speeds. The chase ended when the suspects turned down a dead-end road in the Sydenham area, where the vehicle came to a stop and four suspects were successfully apprehended.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of several mobile phones, including the one stolen during the earlier robbery on North Coast Road. The Avoca robbery suspects arrested were transported to Sydenham SAPS for further processing.
Further investigation revealed that the individuals are linked to numerous robbery cases involving stolen cell phones across the Greater Durban area.
This incident highlights the precision, speed, and efficiency of Marshall Security’s Armed Response and Special Operations Teams. Their swift and strategic coordination ensured the Avoca robbery suspects arrested were brought into custody, stolen property was recovered, and further incidents were prevented.
