Proactive patrols, community vigilance and swift response by Marshall Security Armed Response Officers resulted in four suspects being apprehended and stolen property recovered across Park Hill, La Lucia, Durban North and Morningside in the space of two days.
In the most recent incident, yesterday at approximately 17h18, a Marshall Security employee who was off duty spotted two suspects allegedly stealing cables from a streetlight pole outside a school in Park Hill. She immediately alerted the Emergency Dispatch Centre, prompting a swift response from Armed Response Officers. Both suspects were apprehended following separate foot pursuits along East View Road, and the recovered cables were handed over to Greenwood Park SAPS.
On Tuesday afternoon, an officer patrolling Armstrong Avenue in La Lucia noticed a suspicious individual carrying an unusually large black bag. When approached, the suspect abandoned the bag and fled across the M4 into nearby bushes. The bag was found to contain copper pipes and cables, which were handed over to Durban North SAPS for further investigation.

Earlier that same morning, an officer patrolling Pembroke Road in Durban North noticed a suspect pushing a black wheelie bin in good condition. Upon questioning, the individual admitted to stealing it from a nearby property along Swapo Road. The owner was contacted and indicated that he wished to press charges. The suspect and recovered bin were subsequently handed over to Durban North SAPS.

In another incident at approximately 06h55 that morning, an officer patrolling Innes Road in Morningside spotted a suspect carrying a white door that appeared to be in good condition. Backup was requested, and officers discovered that the individual was also carrying a knife. Unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for the door’s origin, the suspect was apprehended and handed over to Durban Central SAPS for further investigation.

Marshall Security commends its Armed Response Officers for their vigilance and proactive approach, as well as the off-duty employee whose quick thinking and immediate reporting helped lead to the apprehension of two suspected cable thieves.
These incidents highlight the value of active patrols, effective communication and community vigilance in identifying suspicious activity, apprehending suspects and recovering stolen property.
Through continued collaboration with SAPS and the vigilance of our teams and communities, Marshall Security remains committed to combating crime and protecting the areas we serve.
