At approximately 11h30 this morning the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre was contacted by a member of the public reporting a shooting incident on Buttery Road in the Umgeni Park area.
Upon the arrival of our Armed Response Officers and Special Operation Team members it was established that the driver of a Toyota Tazz had been approached by two unknown suspects, one of which was armed with a firearm and attempted to hijack the driver of his vehicle. During the incident the motorist was shot twice and the suspects managed to flee with only the victim’s cellphone and wallet, leaving the injured man in his vehicle.
Members of our Special Operations Team attended to the victim and managed to stabilise him on scene before handing him to Netcare 911 paramedics, who arrived on the scene a short while later. The victim was then rushed to a nearby government facility.
Two spent cartridges were found on scene and the scene was secured and handed over to the SAPS.
A search was conducted for the suspects, however they still remain at large after fleeing into a nearby informal settlement.
