At approximately 10h30 this morning, Marshall Security was notified of a stranded dog on the M4 Virginia offramp after it was hit by a car.
A decision was made to close the M4 freeway in both directions to ensure the safe retrieval of the injured pup. Metro Durban Search and Rescue, together with Marshall Security’s community support team, swiftly responded and safely retrieved the injured dog.
The quick response by the Coastal SPCA must also be mentioned, as they arrived on the scene minutes after the dog was brought to safety.
The young female dog was transported to the Durban Coastal facility, where it was determined that the injuries were so severe that the animal had to be euthanized.
Sadly, due to the dog not having any identification, we could not locate the owner to inform them that the dog had to be euthanized due to the severity of its injuries.
We encourage all community members to ensure their dogs have collars with identification tags or are microchipped so that we can quickly locate and inform owners in situations like these.
This incident highlights the importance of quick action and collaboration in emergency situations. We commend all involved for their dedication and efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of the community and its beloved pets.
