This morning, at approximately 05h57, Marshall Security’s Emergency Dispatch Centre received an alert via the Home Hawks Neighborhood Watch Crime Alert group reporting that two males had just robbed a woman of her cell phone while she was walking near the corner of Old Mill Way and Adelaide Tambo Drive in the Durban North area.
Marshall Security Armed Response Officers were immediately dispatched to the scene to investigate.
Upon arrival, officers spoke to the victim, who reported that she had been approached from behind by two suspects — one armed with a pair of scissors. The suspects grabbed her bag, stole her cell phone, and attempted to flee. Fortunately, passing cyclists witnessed the incident and intervened, preventing the suspects from escaping.
Our officers quickly apprehended the two suspects on scene. A bystander also reported seeing a third suspect, dressed in a pink shirt and black pants, fleeing in a specific direction.
Armed with this description, our team began searching the area and located the third suspect on Lonsdale Drive. He was swiftly apprehended.
A search of all three suspects did not uncover the stolen phone, and they were unable to provide its whereabouts however it is believed the phone was hidden in a nearby bush by the third suspect. A search for the stolen phone was conducted but was unfortunately unsuccessful.
Durban North SAPS was contacted and arrived shortly thereafter. All three suspects were transported to the police station for further investigation and processing.
