Yesterday, at approximately 10h40, a Marshall Security Armed Response Officer whilst on routine patrol on Chris Hani Road in the Glen Hills area and noticed two individuals carrying heavy bags and behaving suspiciously.
The officer recognised one of the individuals as resembling a suspect wanted in connection with a copper theft incident that had occurred at a non-client property on Duffy Crescent in Avoca on Thursday morning where a formal case was registered with Greenwood Park SAPS and CCTV footage of the incident was obtained.
Backup was immediately requested, and additional Marshall Security Armed Response Officers responded to assist.
Once backup arrived, both suspects were promptly apprehended and searched. A large quantity of copper sheeting was discovered in their possession, which they were unable to satisfactorily account for.

While awaiting SAPS, members of the eThekwini Electricity Department were flagged down and assisted in identifying the recovered copper. Officials confirmed that the copper appeared to have been removed from underground infrastructure.
Greenwood Park SAPS subsequently arrived on scene and transported both suspects to the station for further investigation and processing. Both suspects are expected to face charges relating to the possession of suspected stolen property.
Following the arrest, one of the suspects was positively linked to the theft incident on Duffy Crescent and is expected to face an additional theft charge in connection with that case.
Marshall Security commends the vigilance of its Armed Response Officers, whose proactive observations not only resulted in the recovery of suspected stolen copper, but also assisted in linking a suspect to a previous theft investigation.
This arrest once again highlights the importance of proactive patrols, CCTV evidence, and close cooperation with SAPS and municipal departments in combating infrastructure and copper theft within our communities.
