At approximately 18h50 last night the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received multiple panic activations from a client on Old North Coast Road in the Avoca area. Multiple Armed Response Officers as well as members of our Special Operations Team were dispatched after being informed that a business robbery had occurred. Team members arrived on scene within minutes.
Upon arrival it was established that four armed suspects arrived in a white vehicle and entered the business complex on Old North Coast Road, where they held up staff members from a vehicle service station.
During the robbery a shootout ensued between the suspects and an armed staff member. Unfortunately during the shooting one staff member sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Another staff member and a security guard had jumped from a height in an attempt to flee, resulting in the staff member severely injuring their leg and the security guard sustaining a serious head injury, he was sadly declared deceased on scene by paramedics.
Both patients were treated on scene by Netcare911 paramedics and paramedics from other medical services. The gunshot wound victim was airlifted to hospital by Netcare helicopter while the second patient was transported by ambulance to hospital for further medical care. Both patients were in stable but critical condition.
The suspects only managed to get away with cellphones during the robbery.
The Greenwood Park Police were also in attendance and will be investigating a case of business robbery and attempted murder.
