At approximately 07h08 this morning, the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received a report from a Marshall Security Officer stationed at a well-known residential estate on Gourly Road in the Ballito area regarding an armed robbery that had just occurred.
It was reported that a pedestrian who was on her way to work was robbed of her cellphone by two suspects who were armed with a knife.
Marshall Security Armed Response Officers, together with Umhlali SAPS, immediately responded to the area and began searching for the suspects.
A short while later, the two suspects were spotted matching the description provided and a pursuit ensued.
Members of another private security company, who noticed the pursuit, joined members in assisting with the apprehension.
The victim’s stolen cellphone was successfully recovered, along with a knife believed to have been used during the armed robbery.
Both suspects were then transported to Umhlali SAPS for further investigation and processing.
It is believed that the suspects have been responsible for multiple robberies along this route; however, no criminal cases have been opened in connection with these incidents. We urge anyone who has fallen victim to a similar robbery, or knows someone who has, to come forward and open a case with Umhlali SAPS, as this information could assist in linking the suspects to other incidents and strengthening ongoing investigations.
Marshall Security commends the rapid response and teamwork between all role players involved, which resulted in the successful apprehension of both suspects and the recovery of the stolen property.
