While Marshall Security dedicated significant resources this week to monitoring protest action and marches across Durban to ensure the safety of the communities it serves, its officers continued to deliver where it mattered most by proactively preventing crime, apprehending suspects, and recovering stolen property.
Despite the additional operational demands placed on teams throughout Tuesday and Wednesday, Marshall Security’s commitment to protecting the community never wavered.
Late last night, at approximately 23h57, the Marshall Security CCTV Control Room received camera alerts identifying an individual carrying a bag and walking through the Durban North area. Using the AI camera network, the suspect’s movements were tracked in real time, and the location and direction of the individual were relayed to Armed Response Officers.
Armed Response Officers successfully located the individual a short while later on Old Mill Way. He was found in possession of copper cables, which he was unable to account for, and was immediately apprehended.
Durban North SAPS attended the scene, and the suspect, together with the recovered cables, was handed over for further investigation and legal processing.
In another incident, on Tuesday, at approximately 12h00, Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team responded after receiving information from Tracker SA regarding a silver Volkswagen Polo Vivo that had been stolen from the Newlands area.
Tracking information led members towards KwaMashu, where, working together with Tracker SA and the KwaMashu SAPS Trio Crime Unit, the stolen vehicle was successfully recovered inside the yard of a residence in KwaMashu.
The vehicle was subsequently transported to KwaMashu SAPS for further investigation.
In a third incident, on Sunday, at approximately 07h40, while conducting routine patrols in Briardene, a Marshall Security Armed Response Officer observed an individual carrying a large business sign.
Suspecting that the signage had been stolen, backup was immediately requested. Additional officers responded, and the suspect was successfully apprehended.
The Control Room contacted the business using the details displayed on the recovered sign. The owner confirmed that the sign belonged to their business and was not aware that it had been stolen. The owner also confirmed their intention to lay charges. SAPS arrived shortly thereafter and took custody of the suspect for further legal processing.
While many of Marshall Security’s resources were dedicated to maintaining public safety during this week’s protest activity, these incidents demonstrate that crime does not stop during periods of heightened operational demand, and neither does Marshall Security. Through proactive patrols, advanced technology, rapid response, and strong partnerships with SAPS and other role players, Marshall Security continued to protect the communities it serves while delivering tangible results on the ground.
