Teamwork Pays Off: Three Suspects Apprehended in Separate Theft Incidents

Teamwork between Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team and Armed Response Officers resulted in three suspects being apprehended and stolen property recovered across three separate incidents.

The most recent incident occurred this morning, at approximately 09h59, when the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received a report of a housebreaking at a property on Burnham Drive in Umhlanga.

According to the complainant, an unknown number of suspects had gained access to the upper level of the property during the early hours of the morning. Four cellphones, a laptop and other undisclosed items were stolen.

Although the property was no longer monitored by Marshall Security, members of the Special Operations Team and Armed Response Officers responded to assist with the investigation.

Information gathered during the investigation led officers to business premises on Elmfield Place in the Umgeni Business Park area, where one suspect was apprehended after two of the stolen cellphones were recovered from his vehicle.

Durban North SAPS attended the scene, and the suspect, his vehicle and the recovered cellphones were taken to the station for further investigation and legal processing.

In a separate incident earlier that morning, at approximately 08h41, a Marshall Security Armed Response Officer conducting proactive patrols along Riverside Road noticed a suspicious individual carrying a large bag.

The officer approached the individual and requested backup. A search of the bag revealed copper pipes, and the suspect admitted to stealing them from a property on Adelaide Tambo Drive in Glenashley.

Additional Armed Response Officers proceeded to the property, where the contractor responsible was informed of the theft and indicated an intention to press charges. Greenwood Park SAPS subsequently took the suspect into custody for further investigation.

In another incident on Thursday, 8 October 2026, at approximately 19h32, a Marshall Security Armed Response Officer conducting proactive patrols along Rinaldo Road in Glen Hills noticed a suspicious individual pushing a wheelie bin.

The suspect initially claimed to have found the bin in La Lucia but later admitted to stealing it from a property along Harrison Drive.

The property owner, a Marshall Security client, confirmed that the bin had been left outside the gate for collection and was unaware of the theft until contacted by Marshall Security. The owner also indicated an intention to press charges. Greenwood Park SAPS attended and transported the suspect to the station for further processing.

Marshall Security commends the vigilance, swift response and proactive approach of its Special Operations Team and Armed Response Officers, whose efforts resulted in three suspects being apprehended and stolen property recovered across these separate incidents.

These incidents highlight the importance of proactive patrols, effective investigations and information sharing in combating crime. Marshall Security remains committed to protecting the wider community, assisting where possible regardless of whether a property is monitored by the company, and working closely with SAPS to make a meaningful difference in the communities we serve.
