Yesterday, at approximately 17h25, Marshall Security received information via a Crime Alert WhatsApp group regarding a suspicious individual seen carrying a wooden door along Rega Place in the Effingham area.
Similar reports had been circulated in the area during the previous week regarding an individual carrying a door, raising suspicions that the incidents could potentially be linked.
Marshall Security Armed Response Officers were immediately dispatched to investigate.
Upon arrival, officers spotted the suspect carrying the wooden door and successfully apprehended him.
When questioned about where he had obtained the door, the suspect initially claimed that he had found it in nearby bushes. Following further questioning, however, officers were provided with the location from which the door had allegedly been stolen.
Additional Armed Response Officers proceeded to the identified property, where they made contact with the owner of a residential complex currently undergoing renovations.
The owner positively identified the recovered door as belonging to the property and confirmed that he wished to open a criminal case against the suspect.
Greenwood Park SAPS attended the scene shortly thereafter and transported the suspect, together with the recovered property, to the police station for further investigation and processing.
A case of theft was subsequently opened with Greenwood Park SAPS.
Marshall Security commends the vigilance of the community and the rapid response of its Armed Response Officers, whose actions resulted in the successful apprehension of the suspect and the recovery of the stolen property.
This incident once again demonstrates how community reporting, proactive response, and thorough follow-up can turn suspicious behaviour into a successful arrest.
