A robbery suspect that has been linked to numerous cases in the Umhlanga, Durban North, Morningside and Davenport areas was arrested after a high speed chase on the M4 south last night.
At approximately 21h30 members of our Special Operations Team while on routine patrol in the Umhlanga area noticed two suspects robbing a victim on Ocean Way for their cellphone. After robbing the victim, the suspects then jumped into a white VW Polo and immediately fled the scene after noticing our Special Ops Team witnessing the robbery.
The suspects then fled onto the M4 southbound freeway in an attempt to get away. Additional Special Operations Team members and Armed Response Officers were immediately dispatched to assist and joined in the high speed chase.
In an attempt to get away the suspects travelled contra flow on the M4 and later lost control of their vehicle after colliding with another motorist just before the Glenashley turnoff.
One suspect was immediately arrested by members of our Special Operations Team while the second suspect entered a nearby thick dense bush. After an extensive search in the bush and surrounding roads and properties, the outstanding suspect unfortunately managed to evade arrest.
The scene was secured and handed over to the Durban North SAPS for further investigation and processing.

The same vehicle and suspects have been wanted for numerous common robbery cases in the Durban North, Morningside, Davenport and Umhlanga areas.
The suspects’ modus operandi is to drive up to vulnerable victims who openly displace their phones or handbags. The suspects then get out of their vehicle and forcefully snatches the item of value from the victim and then run back to the car and speed off. The SAPS will be investigating these incidents further as well.
