This past weekend our team members recovered several stolen items and arrested one suspect after pursuing information received of five suspicious occupants in a Toyota Yaris.
On Sunday morning at approximately 06h05 members of our Special Operations Team together with the SAPS Phoenix Trio Crimes Unit and SAPS Crime Intelligence Unit proceeded to investigate information received on the possible whereabouts of stolen property.
All members proceeded to the said location on Bombo Road in Kwamashu D Section and upon arriving on scene noticed the suspicious vehicle, a white Toyota Yaris, with the five occupants inside.
The suspects noticed our members approaching and immediately fled from their vehicle, opening fire on our team members. After a short shootout, one suspect was immediately arrested while the other suspects unfortunately fled on foot and managed to escape in between the houses.
Upon searching the suspects’ vehicle, eight computer towers, a TV, four cellphones and business breaking implements were found. It was later established that the stolen property had been taken in a business robbery at a well-known stationery shop in the Glenwood area.
The SAPS will be investigating further.
