INCIDENT: HIJACKING / SUSPECT KILLED / SUSPECT ARRESTED

On Saturday nite just after 18h00, Marshall Security, Matrix vehicle tracking and members of the Metro Police Trio Crimes Unit were called to assist in tracking a hijacked motor vehicle.
The vehicle in question a blue Kia Rio hatchback had been taken in a hijacking in the Inanda area west of Durban, where a number of armed suspects had confronted a female motorist leaving her seriously injured and in hospital.
Tracking signals lead the team in the direction of Gingindlovu where the vehicle was intercepted. In an attempt to evade arrest, the suspects opened fire on the officers and a high-speed chase ensued, resulting in the suspects losing control of their vehicle on a gravel road. Three suspects alighted from the vehicle and continued firing shots in the direction of pursuing officers who returned fire, fatally wounding one suspect. Another was seriously injured whilst the third managed to evade arrest.
The scene was secured and handed over to the South African Police Services for further investigation and processing.
