Hit-and-Run Driver Investigated For Culpable Homicide After Knocking Cyclist

A hit-and-run driver was tracked down by one of our Special Ops Team members after he had knocked into and severely injured a cyclist on Saturday morning, who has subsequently sadly passed from his injuries.

Early in the morning at approximately 04h50 the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received reports of an accident on the M4 close to Sibaya where a cyclist had been knocked by an unknown vehicle which had fled the accident scene in an unknown direction.

The Durban North SAPS were informed accordingly and medical services were immediately dispatched to the scene. The cyclist suffered severe injuries and Advanced Life Support intervention was required on scene. Patient was treated by Netcare911 and transported to a nearby hospital by a private ambulance service for the further medical care that he would require.

A member of our Special Operations Team who was in the vicinity when the incident took place immediately responded to assist. Upon interviewing bystanders it was established that the vehicle had been seen entering a well-known complex in the Sibaya area.

Our Special Ops Team member immediately went to investigate and managed to locate the vehicle believed to have been involved in the accident due to the damage that it had sustained. The driver of the vehicle was located a few moments later.

The Durban North SAPS were informed accordingly and arrived on scene a short while later. The driver of the vehicle was then interviewed by the SAPS and transported to the Police Station for further investigation and processing.

It was later reported that the cyclist had sadly passed away this morning in the hospital. We offer our sincere condolences to the family.

The Durban North SAPS are currently investigating a case of culpable homicide against the motorist.
