At approximately 09:08 this morning, Marshall Security’s Emergency Dispatch Centre received an alert from a vigilant member of the public via a WhatsApp Crime Alert group reporting a suspect breaking into a property on Esselmont Avenue in the Essenwood area.
Armed Response Officers were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arriving first on scene, it was established that the suspect had forced open the property’s garage door and entered the premises. After being confronted by the homeowner, the suspect fled the scene on foot and dropping the items he intended to steal.
With the suspect’s clothing description on hand and direction of travel were immediately circulated to responding officers.
Within minutes, one of Marshall Security’s Armed Response Officers spotted the suspect near the Greyville Racecourse. A short foot pursuit followed, resulting in the suspect being successfully apprehended.
The homeowner positively identified the suspect as the individual who had unlawfully entered the property.
SAPS attended the scene, and a formal case was opened.
