Joint Effort Leads to Successful Arrest in Theft Case

Last night at approximately 17h30, members of the Special Operations Team in the Umgeni Park area spotted a silver Toyota Etios, which was wanted in connection with a theft case in the Umhlanga area. The suspects in the vehicle had reportedly snatched a cellphone from a member of the public before fleeing the scene.

Our Special Ops Team promptly initiated pursuit of the vehicle and requested assistance from the Greenwood Park SAPS Trio Crimes Unit. After a brief period, members of the Special Operations Team and SAPS managed to successfully stop the vehicle on Riverside Road.

Upon interviewing and searching the suspects and the vehicle, three cellphones, various bank cards, driver’s license cards and ID cards that did not belong to the suspects were discovered. The suspects could not provide a reasonable explanation to the SAPS members as to how they had these items in their possession and were immediately arrested.

The suspects, who are believed to have been involved in numerous theft and common robbery cases in the Greenwood Park and Durban North area in the last few months, have been transported to Greenwood Park SAPS where they will be charged for being in possession of suspected stolen items.

We strongly urge members of the public to report any incidents and open a case with the SAPS if they have fallen victim to crimes with a similar modus operandi.

We commend all the teams involved for their exceptional efforts, which have resulted in yet another successful arrest.
