Yesterday, at approximately 16h50, while conducting proactive patrols along Chris Hani Road, a Marshall Security Armed Response Officer noticed two suspicious individuals carrying a vehicle battery.
The officer stopped to question the individuals, at which point one suspect fled the scene, while the second suspect was immediately apprehended. Additional Marshall Security Armed Response Officers were dispatched to assist.
When questioned, the apprehended suspect denied that the battery had been stolen. However, upon inspecting the battery, officers noticed markings linking it to a Marshall Security client situated along Chris Hani Road.
Marshall Security’s Emergency Dispatch Centre immediately contacted the client, who attended the scene and confirmed that a battery had been stolen from a vehicle parked on the premises.
CCTV footage was reviewed and showed the suspects allegedly jumping over the property’s boundary wall, breaking the bracket securing the battery, and removing it from the vehicle.
SAPS was informed and attended the scene shortly thereafter. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to Greenwood Park SAPS for further investigation and processing.
Unfortunately, despite an extensive search, the second suspect managed to evade arrest.
Marshall Security commends the vigilance of its Armed Response Officer, whose proactive patrol and attention to detail resulted in the successful apprehension of the suspect, recovery of the stolen property, and identification of where the battery had been stolen from.
This incident once again highlights the value of proactive patrols, combined with CCTV footage and community cooperation, in identifying criminal activity and assisting SAPS in bringing suspects to justice.
