Marshall Security’s Emergency Dispatch Centre was alerted via a Crime Alert WhatsApp group to an emergency at a non-client’s property on Sagewood Way in the Glen Anil area, where children were reportedly calling for help. At the time, the exact nature of the incident was unknown.
Multiple Marshall Security Armed Response Officers, together with members of the Special Operations Team (SOT), immediately responded to the property.
Upon arrival, officers established that a dog from a nearby property had entered the premises and attacked the homeowner’s dog.
Marshall Security members immediately intervened and successfully secured the attacking dog before safely handing it over to the gardener from the property where it belonged.
It was then established that the homeowner’s dog had sustained severe injuries during the attack and required urgent veterinary attention.
With the assistance of a Glen An-Hills Neighbourhood Watch patroller who was already on scene, the injured dog was transported to Ashburn Veterinary Hospital. The veterinary team had been notified in advance and were standing by to receive the animal upon arrival.
Despite the best efforts of the veterinary staff, the dog sadly succumbed to its injuries and was declared deceased upon arrival.
Marshall Security extends its sincere condolences to the family following the loss of their beloved pet and wishes to thank the Glen Anil Neighbourhood Watch and the veterinary team at Ashburn Veterinary Hospital for their assistance during the incident.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible pet ownership and the value of strong community partnerships in responding quickly to emergencies, no matter the circumstances.
Following the incident, the family was put in contact with the Durban North Victim Support Unit, who will provide support and assistance during this difficult time.
