At approximately 13h10, the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received multiple panic activations from a client on Gordon Road. Responding officers were dispatched to investigate after it was established that a young woman had been found injured outside the premises.
Upon arrival, Marshall Security Armed Response Officers found the victim surrounded by members of the public. The victim reported that while walking along Gordon Road, a white Toyota Etios hatchback stopped next to her. An individual allegedly exited the vehicle, grabbed her phone, and fled the scene in the vehicle. During the robbery, the victim sustained injuries.
The victim supplied officers with the number plate of the suspect’s vehicle, and the details were circulated to all vehicles to be on the lookout.
Acting on the information received, Marshall Security Armed Response Officers conducted patrols in the surrounding area before locating the suspect vehicle parked at a tyre shop on Quarry Road East. Backup vehicles were immediately dispatched to assist.
The driver of the vehicle was successfully apprehended by Marshall Security Special Operations Team members and Armed Response Officers.
Members of Berea SAPS were contacted and arrived on scene shortly thereafter, taking the suspect into custody for further investigation and processing.
Unfortunately, the second suspect had already fled the scene prior to the arrival of our officers.
Netcare 911 paramedics treated the victim at the scene before transporting her to hospital for further medical care.
Marshall Security commends the courage shown by the victim, as well as the immediate response of its Armed Response Officers. This successful arrest once again highlights the importance of rapid reporting, effective use of CCTV technology, and close cooperation between private security and SAPS in bringing suspects to justice.
