At approximately 08h05, Marshall Security received information via a Crime Alert WhatsApp group regarding a suspicious individual loitering in the Thirlmere Place area of Durban North.
Marshall Security Armed Response Officers were immediately dispatched to investigate.
Upon arrival, officers spotted the suspect inside a property on Thirlmere Place. As officers approached, the individual fled on foot, jumping over multiple boundary walls in an attempt to evade arrest.
Additional Armed Response Officers responded to assist, and after a brief foot pursuit through several neighbouring properties, the suspect was successfully apprehended.
A search of the suspect resulted in the recovery of a pair of pliers, believed to be intended for use as a housebreaking implement, as well as a Smart ID card and several bank cards.
Using the details found on the recovered identification, Marshall Security’s Control Room traced the rightful owner, who confirmed that the items belonged to him. The owner, who resides in Johannesburg, advised that he had travelled to Durban for the long weekend and had lost the items during his visit.
The suspect was transported to Durban North SAPS for further investigation and processing. The recovered identification and bank cards were handed over to SAPS to be returned to their rightful owner.
Marshall Security commends the vigilance of the local community, the rapid response of its Armed Response Officers, and the persistence shown during the foot pursuit, which resulted in the successful apprehension of the suspect and the recovery of the owner’s personal belongings.
