At approximately 11h43, multiple messages were circulated on Crime Alert WhatsApp groups reporting a suspicious individual at a property on Conyngham Avenue. The suspect was reported to be on the premises and wearing green overalls.
Marshall Security Armed Response Officers and members of the Special Operations Team (SOT) were immediately dispatched to the area. An extensive, coordinated search was launched as the suspect attempted to evade officers by jumping in and out of several properties. Officers continued searching the area, and while patrolling Clarendon Road, members noticed the suspect exiting a premises on Clarendon Road and fleeing on foot. Officers immediately gave chase and managed to apprehend the suspect on Eastview Road.
Upon searching the suspect, officers recovered two pairs of sneakers and various items of clothing. Further investigation revealed that the items had been stolen from a nearby property on Clarendon Road.
Greenwood Park SAPS were contacted and arrived on scene shortly thereafter. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the police station for further investigation and processing.
